Connecting your datasources
Overview : This article walks you through the necessary steps on how to connect multiple datasources using the Clumio Portal.
Once you have signed up for Clumio SaaS, you will have the ability to connect one or more data sources. The onboarding process for data sources differs a little bit so make sure to read the content below and the next steps.
When you log in to the platform, you should see an option to connect the datasource of your choice as shown below .
Add AWS Environment
When adding AWS environments, make sure you are signed into the right AWS account using the next tab on your default browser. This should be the account where you want to install Clumio. Here are the prerequisites before you begin.
What is needed to deploy?
- AWS console to manage the CloudFormation services.
- The Clumio service credentials are used to access the Clumio portal.
What permissions are needed to deploy the Clumio Service?
- Clumio SNS Topic
- Clumio SNS Topic Policy
- Clumio Event Rules
- Clumio IAM Policies
- Clumio IAM Roles
Follow the steps below to add AWS environment using the Clumio portal :
- Login to Clumio Portal
- Click on "Environment " right under AWS
- Select "Add environments with Cloud Formation"
- Enter the AWS account number: Enter your 12-digit AWS account ID.
- Select the AWS account region: Select the AWS account region associated with the data sources.
6. Enter the description: Optionally enter a brief description of the account. For example, “Payroll-APJ”.
7. Click on Next
8. You will be presented with 2 options
- Launch Quick Create Stack Wizard which will allow you to Create CloudFormation stack automatically (Recommended )
- Create CloudFormation stack manually
9. Choose the appropriate one and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the stack installation. More detailed instructions here.
10. Once completed, you should see the account listed in the environments page with status "Connected" and the deployment (Discover/Protect) marked as "Up to date"
11. AWS Connection is complete. Navigate to protecting your resources.
Add your Microsoft 365 account
When adding your Microsoft 365 account into Clumio, make sure you are signed in as the global admin or any admin who has the following permissions.
For Exchange, click this link.
For Sharepoint/OneDrive, click this link.
- Login to your Clumio Portal
- Select Microsoft 365
- Click on "Add Account "
- Fill in the details for your Microsoft 365 Account. This would be your Microsoft 365 domain.
- Enable Protection for the desired data sources.
- Once you click on add account, it should take you to Microsoft Permissions page. If not signed in, it will ask you to sign in. Please make sure it's the admin account which you have signed into.
- Clumio will ask for permissions twice. Once for Exchange and once for Sharepoint/Onedrive. Please make sure to grant those permissions.
- If you encounter errors, please reach out to Clumio Support.
- Once completed, you should see the domain listed under Microsoft 365 > Accounts.

Add your VMware Cloud vCenter
When adding your VMware Cloud vCenter into Clumio, make sure you have access to the vCenter and the cloudadmin VMC account. Anything that can satisfy these permissions will also work. Before you begin please make sure you go through the Pre-Deployment Checklist for VMC.
After clicking on "VMWare Cloud vCenter", please follow the steps listed below
- You will see an unfilled form. Proceed to fill the form with information from vCenter.
- Put in your vcenter hostname (not the URL, just the hostname portion.
- Click Next.
- Clumio will provide two connection strings to complete the setup
- Cloud Connector URL - The URL from where the OVF shall be fetched
- Clumio Token - Unique token associated with this vcenter. You can always retrieve it later.
- Navigate to the vcenter and complete the setup using the instructions provided here.
- Please navigate to the "Deploy a Cloud Connector" section of the user guide from the above step.
- Once completed successfully, you will see the "vCenter connected" highlighted on the Clumio UI. Alternatively, the vcenter list page will show "Connected" or "Partially Connected". For any issues refer to this list of knowledge base articles or reach out to Clumio Support.
- Assuming the vcenter is connected, protect away! Refer to the policies section of the user guide.
